Timber Roof Lanterns — Supplied & Installed

On a Georgian rectory or a Victorian villa, an aluminium lantern can look like a visitor. Timber lanterns belong — the ovolo mouldings, the painted finish, the proportions all match the joinery the house was built with.

Timber Roof Lanterns

The detail that matters

We supply bespoke hardwood and Accoya roof lanterns, factory-finished in any colour, for heritage projects, conservation areas and owners who simply prefer wood.

Our timber lanterns are made by specialist joinery workshops in engineered hardwood or Accoya — modified timber with a 50-year above-ground durability rating that has transformed what wooden rooflights can promise. Frames are factory spray-finished in microporous paint, glazed with slim heritage double-glazed units, and detailed with the mouldings, cappings and finials the period demands. Lead times are longer than aluminium and every lantern is drawn for approval before manufacture — the right process for listed-building consent applications, where we can supply section drawings for your submission.

Frequently asked questions

Are timber roof lanterns high maintenance?

Far less than they used to be. Accoya and engineered hardwood with factory microporous finishes typically need recoating every 8–10 years rather than the constant attention old softwood demanded.

Will a timber lantern get listed building consent?

Timber is usually the material conservation officers want to see on listed properties. We supply scaled section drawings and specification documents to support your consent application.

What is Accoya and why use it?

Accoya is acetylated timber — wood modified at a cellular level for stability and rot resistance, carrying a 50-year above-ground warranty. It holds paint beautifully and barely moves with the seasons.

Can a timber lantern match my existing joinery colour?

Yes — frames are factory spray-finished to any RAL or matched colour, so the lantern arrives ready-painted to sit alongside your existing windows and doors.

How long does a bespoke timber lantern take?

Typically 6–10 weeks from approved drawings to delivery, depending on workshop schedules and finish. We'll confirm the programme before you commit.
